If I had a pound for every time Dean and I argued about when to turn the heating on, I’d have enough money to pay the energy bill for a good few months! It seems every household has at least one person who’s shivering under a blanket come mid-September, complaining about the cold, while another walks around in flip flops and insists on sleeping with the window open.
We’ve had ours on for a few weeks now (apparently the 16th October is the day when the nation whacks on the central heating) and everything had been fine and toasty until the other day…
If you follow me on Instagram then you might have seen some stories last week of me huddle over a heater in my dressing gown complaining that I was freezing. We got home from work to a nice warm house and then a few hours later it was absolutely freezing! Luckily it was an easy and quick problem to fix since my Dad (aka the landlord) is a builder/plumber/electrician/general clever clogs and was able to identify the problem, order a part for it and fit it within a few days but it got me thinking, what would we have done if we weren’t renting or knew someone that was able to fix things like that?
Boiler maintenance, repairs and replacement can be a costly business and a lot of people worry about contacting trades people as they are concerned about getting ripped off, especially in an emergency situation when there can be astronomical call out fees, and when it comes to things like boiler repairs or replacements you want to make sure you’ve found someone trustworthy.
Even if its not an emergency situation, if you’re new home owners and have bought a bit of a fixer upper then it might be that you need to look at a whole new boiler system and the costs involved – If your boiler was installed before 2004, it’s likely to be an inefficient ‘non-condensing’ boiler. More modern boilers should be condensing boilers, which are much more energy efficient. If you currently have a G-rated boiler with some heating controls, by upgrading to an A-rated boiler with a full set of heating controls you could save around £200 a year!
Luckily there are companies such as Heating Force who can help make sure you are getting the best deal! They are one of the biggest FREE resources in the UK helping thousands of people with boiler problems every-single-month, their team has managed accounts in multi-million pound turnover heating merchants (so, they know the best heating products, and the reps that sell them), as well as completing nationwide boiler installations in both residential and commercial properties.
If you’re worried about getting ripped off by a dodgy engineer or if you’re confused as to whether you should repair or replace your boiler then their blog and handy guides can help you out, and if you can’t find the information you’re looking then you can drop them a line and they’ll do their best to help you out.
They have connections throughout the UK with some of the best fitters in the business, they can get you a fixed price for your boiler installation or repair and the whole process can take 24hrs or less!
