If this year has taught us anything, it’s just how quickly life can change. Literally overnight your life can be turned upside down. This is why it’s so important to be on top of those ‘life admin’ tasks we usually put off.
If something was to happen to you or someone in your family, would you know everything you need to keep the household running? Do you know where all those important documents are kept, where the water stopcock is located (sounds trivial but it is something that is key to know), what medication the dog/cat/rabbit needs and when?
In a difficult time, finding documents and information quickly and simply can help you avoid stress and save a lot of time. This is where What If Solved steps in.

What is What If Solved?
What If Solved is a comprehensive digital platform which gives you a way to organise the important information in your life. It unburdens your loved ones should anything happen to you and gives them everything they need in one place. No more rooting through boxes under the bed or file after file in that cabinet in the spare room. A little bit of organisation right now will remove a whole lot of stress from your loved ones should there be a time when they need to take over. Let’s be frank, none of us are getting out of here alive and having your important information and documentation in one place, for if/when something does happen, is the perfect solution.
How does it work?
What If Solved works by you inputting all your details that people will need to know if you aren’t around (be that through whatever means, we aren’t just talking about in the case of death, what if you need to have a prolonged hospital stay or you have a situation where you lose all of your paperwork). It’s essentially a huge online binder for all of your important information, documents and wishes. Your digital library can be updated, added to and changed whenever you wish.
One of the unique parts of What If Solved is that they send you regular personal check-up emails. This is just checking that you are ok and everything is well and you simply respond with a click. If there is no response within a set period of time, an alert notification will be sent to your Trustees. You can set the frequency that you want to receive these emails. If you’re young, fit and healthy you might not want them as regularly but if you’ve recently been diagnosed with something and this has made you want to get your affairs in order, you might want them more regularly.
What are owners and trustees?
With What If Solved, there are owners and trustees. The owners are those who have control of the account. This could be just you, but you might want other people to be able to help. You can have up to three owners on one account. Trustees are the people that you trust and want to have access to your documents should anything happen to you. These people need to know that it’s a serious responsibility to have given to them. They’ll be responsible for accessing your account and sharing your essential information with your loved ones.
What sort of details should I be adding?
You might be wondering what to include in your What If Solved online storage box. Everything you think loved ones would need to know if you were to pass. This could be information about life insurance, who your will is with and where your bank accounts are held. It could be a copy of your birth certificate, who your house insurance is with and where your loved ones will find spare keys to your vehicles.
What If Solved runs you through all these potential areas which you may wish to note information down. It could be a contact for where you work so they can be informed of your passing, along with what equipment in the home needs to be returned to your employer. If you’re self-employed you might detail emails of clients who will need to know. If you have a gardener who comes every fortnight, they’ll need to be informed as well. Anything and everything that people would need to know and have access to in order to make thing that little bit easier to deal with and manage. That is what you should include.
Is it secure?
You might think that having everything in one place isn’t a good idea as it can easily go missing in one go. What If Solved use industry-leading security technology to ensure your information is safe. With What If Solved, your security and privacy are a top priority. They will never ask you to include pin numbers or passwords. When you have stored your information you can appoint Trustees. These are people you trust completely and who will be responsible for sharing all your essential documentation with loved ones when they need it. You can read more about What If Solved security measures here.
How much does it cost?
You can try What If Solved for free for 30 days. Should you wish to continue after that, it’s just £50 a year. No credit card details are needed in order to activate your free trial and you can choose to cancel anytime. You’ll receive an email each year to extend your account for another 12 months. This can be easily done with a click.
Why I think What If Solved is such a good idea
Regardless of the times we are currently in, I think What If Solved is such a good idea – I’ve been saying for ages that I need to find a place to collate all of our information because I take care of all the finances and paperwork in our house (Dean doesn’t have a clue where any of it is…he still hasn’t downloaded the mobile banking app to his phone!) and even I struggle to keep up with it all sometimes!
From a current world events point of view – life is indeed short. We never know when our time will be up and even if we were to live a long and happy life, we don’t want to spend our twilight years organising our affairs and worrying that family won’t know where things are. If something does happen and we get ill we to spend the last of our time telling those we love how important they are to us, not bringing them up to speed about the current window cleaner who will need to be informed. Having all the important information in one centralised and safe location is ideal. You can update it whenever something changes in your life and when the worst does happen, people in your life who you trust will gain access to all the info you need.
Getting our paperwork and details in order is something we all should be thinking of doing – no matter where we are in life and no matter what is happening around us, it’s just good ‘life admin’ and What If Solved have made it a lot easier for us to do!
