One of my Goals for the month was to have a sort out of all my clothes. I say all my clothes like I’m some kind of fashionista but I actually already have a fairly limited wardrobe of just tatty clothes for work, pajamas, gym clothes, less tatty clothes for the weekends that could probably pass for pajamas/sleepwear and a few items that could pass as ‘dressy’ clothes.
I do want to have a better array of clothes but I am saving that for when I have lost some weight and have some spare money so that I can invest in some more expensive pieces (it’s one of my #LifestyleUpgrades) that will last me longer, I’m not talking £100+ items but more along the lines of maybe a £60 pair of boots that will go with everything as apposed to £12 Primark ones that get holes in the soles after 5 wear and jumpers that wont bobble up after 3 washes. I like the idea of Project 333 and having a capsule wardrobe but that’s a dream for another day!
So, first things first when it comes to my way of organising/decluttering – clear a space to dump everything on to…check!
Then, dump said items on to lovely clear space and then decided you need to get a cuppa and put some YouTube videos on the laptop as this is going to take longer than you anticipated!
My main aim with this whole declutter was to refine my already minimal wardrobe, not so much to make it easier to pick an outfit but just to be able to get some more items out of the house that don’t need to be there. I’m not necessarily trying to be a minimalist but I feel like less clutter makes the house easier to maintain and I feel less stressed knowing there aren’t drawers full of stuff just lying around.
As you can see, after my sort out the wardrobe looks pretty bare but at the moment I honestly don’t wear much more than work clothes (work polo short or old plain t-shirt with either a skirt or exercise/yoga pants) or gym clothes as all I do at the moment is work and work-out and on the odd occasion that we go out maybe once or twice a month I have a dress I can chuck on.
That sounds a bit sad when I write it ‘all i do is work or work-out’ but we just happen to be in a particularly work heavy period of life at the moment and I’m fine with that, the hard work is paying off an its getting us closer to our bigger goals.
I’ve got enough workout clothes to rotate for when other bits are in the wash, some of these will probably be chucked soon too but I’m getting as much wear out of them as poss before they go in the bin – if a sports bra has enough stretch left to keep my boobs under control then it’s safe for now!
This is the drawer of things that don’t fit but I’d like to fit into…well, kind of…let me explain. I know a lot of people say you shouldn’t keep clothes that you’d like to fit into as it might set you up with an unrealistic aim and you’ll feel disappointed BUT I’m keeping these clothes not so much as a ‘goal weight’ type thing but more of a seeing how my body is changing gauge, does that make sense? If I do end up fitting back into some of them I might not keep them anyway, they’re just there to help me see how I’m doing with my weightloss.
This is the basket of items that are either going to be sold, donated or thrown away/used for rags. They will go to my Mum and Sister to be checked to see if they want to resell them on eBay and if not they will take them to the charity shop. I’ve got to remember to count whats in this basket before I bag it up so that it can be part of my ‘Declutter 100 items ‘ goal.
