One of the first things that often gets cut from a budget when your trying to tighten your belt is personal spending, and a big part of personal spending for many people includes health and beauty care.
I have looked into getting my teeth whitened professionally a few times before and each time I’ve been shocked at the price (I think I’ve been hoping that it might get cheaper now that it’s become more mainstream but it seems there are more and more options that are getting progressively more expensive!)
I’ve tried a lot the reasonably priced teeth whitening products on the market to see if I can get a brighter smile – toothpastes, gels, powders and strips, you name it I’ve tried it and I’ve never been overly impressed with the results. I don’t have particularly bad teeth, I don’t smoke or drink red wine, so they aren’t heavily stained but they never look overly white.
The only thing I have found okay results with were brand of whitening stripes that all the beauty bloggers were recommending back in the day, you had to get them from eBay as they were an American drugstore brand that wasn’t readily stocked in the UK. I did get whiter teeth from using them BUT I also got excruciating pain as they made my teeth highly sensitive (I don’t have sensitive teeth whatsoever and I used them exactly as directed but they still hurt me) so I decided from then on that I wouldn’t use anything on my teeth that uses hash chemicals as it really wasn’t worth the potential pain and damage.
In recent years there have been a lot of products coming out that use charcoal for teeth whitening and people are raving about them. I was a little bit skeptical at first as it seems counter intuitive to add something black to your teeth to make them whiter but after a bit of research I found that there is good evidence to suggest that activated charcoal can help to lift stains from your teeth as its porous particles act like magnets for other particles (in this case the stuff that stains your teeth) leaving them whiter as a result
I was lucky enough to get to try out some a packet of Teeth Whitening Strips from Pro Teeth Whitening.co to see if they made a difference to my smile. They are peroxide free and are developed to safely whiten teeth and remove stains, it’s an enamel friendly formula and is gentle on your gums…and the bets part? They are only £13.99 so perfect for anyone on a budget!
These were my teeth at the start of the trial, as you can see they aren’t very white and the bottom ones seem more dis-coloured than the top.
The strips aren’t hard to use at all, you just need to make sure that your teeth are dry before you apply them and keep them on for 30mins to work their magic. It’s a bit of an odd sensation if you’ve never used teeth strips before but you soon get used to it. The only bit I didn’t like of the whole process was removing the strips and then having the charcoal gunk residue left on my teeth but it brushes off really easily plus it leaves your breath nice and fresh!
This is my teeth at the end of the 14 day trial, you can see that some of that yellowness has lifted and they all look a lot more even in colour!
