Every year I make resolutions to try and change my life for the better and make it my best year yet…and every year (by around mid January) I end up feeling disappointed in myself when I don’t stick to them.
So I’m just not doing it this year. I am not making any resolutions. In fact I’ve even gone as far as to create what I’ve called Anti-Resolution Movement
Instead of resolutions for 2019 I have chosen ‘Words of the Year’. Having just one or two words to concentrate on is a great way to keep you focused and stop the guilt and disappointment cycle of breaking resolutions.
My words for 2019 are Intentional and Simplify.
I want to be more intentional with my time and money in 2019. Its set to be a very busy year for us so I want to make sure I’m being as productive as possible with the time I have, I’m not sure exactly what form this will take yet but I think I might have to look into ways to schedule my days and evenings to fit everything in…I mean, I could just do less stuff but that’s not really how I roll!
In terms of money I want to be more proactive with saving, whether that be for big things like our BS3 Fully Funded Emergency Fund or smaller amounts towards Sinking Funds (I really like Sarah Janes idea of using set %’s of Side hustle money to go towards certain sinking funds). Instead of just chucking whats left at the end of the month towards them I want to have them as dedicated budget lines with set amounts. We’re set to finish our debt snowball in the next few weeks and once that is clear we will have a lot more money in the budget to play with and send towards those savings.
Why do something the hard way when it’s usually quicker to do it the easy way? Simple processes and routines work, I have a habit of making them convoluted and impractical so I want to take things back to basics and work smarter not harder. This is something I can implement in every aspect of our lives – I want a simplified hosuework routine so we know what has to be done and when , I’m going to try and simplify our budget even more so that I don’t have to spend too much time working out where I should be putting money each month. I’m going to pare down the amount of products we use to just our favourite brands so that I can maybe buy them in bulk and get rid of the rest of the stuff cluttering up the cleaning or bathroom cupboards.
There are so many areas that I can think of that I want to simplify and I’m stupidly excited to do it because the simpler things are the less time they take and if I can save myself time here and there I can have a bit more wiggle room in my day.
