I decided to start keto as I wanted to lose weight and manage my hormone levels better before trying for a baby, I’d heard from a lot of people that Keto seems to do something magic to your hormone levels and can help regulate ovulation which is pretty helpful when trying to conceive!
As we have discussed in previous posts, keto is a diet plan in which you limit your carbohydrate intake to 20 grams per day. Many people follow the keto diet in an effort to lose weight or to otherwise improve their health.
There are many health benefits to keto, which is why it is so popular. That being said, it can also be very difficult to see success when you may be making mistakes with it that you are unaware of. There is so much information out there and so many people putting their own spin on it that it’s easy to get lost in the clutter of information. If you are struggling with keto, there are likely reasons why, but not to worry, there are ways to fix it.
5 Reasons Keto Isn’t Working for You and How to Fix It
1. You are consuming too many carbs
To be truly keto, you need to keep your carb count to 5% of your calories. Keeping your carb count that low is quite difficult to get used to and many people assume that since they are eating lower carb, they are keto. You need to be keeping track of your carbs to make sure you are within the right numbers. Consider using an app like MyFitnessPal to keep track.
2. You are consuming too many calories
With all of the amazing photos of keto foods that glide across your social media timelines, it is easy to overdo it. Many people just see that a meal is low carb so they eat as much of it as they can without realizing how many calories are in the foods that they are eating.
3. You have a medical issue that has yet to be diagnosed
If you have any medical issues that have yet to be diagnosed, they may be the cause of the keto diet not working for you. There are certain medical conditions that can actually cause weight gain so if this is your experience you should go see the doctor to clear up any underlying issues. Unbalanced hormones can also be a big factor when it comes to weight so it’s worth getting a blood test to check them out. If you’re also doing Keto to try and conceive then it’s also a good idea to get a woman’s personal health check done to check for any issues that could be hindering the process, it could also be a good time to talk to you partner and suggest they get a test done too.
4. You are eating too many sweets
If you have gone online anytime recently you have seen some amazing food photos and recipes out there for keto-friendly desserts. Even though they are keto-friendly, they should still be consumed as a treat every once in a while. Many, many people forget that and enjoy them often.
5. You are not resting enough or otherwise taking care of yourself
While many assume that succeeding with keto is solely dependent on the food, it is important to remember that keto is not all about the diet. You need to be taking care of your entire self in order to succeed with keto. That means lots of sleep, adequate exercise and not allowing yourself to get too stressed out. Not taking care of any one of these things can contribute to your lack of success with keto.
Have you done keto before? What was your experience? What struggles did you have or what parts did you find success with?
